Hidden for almost a century in the garret of St Thomas's Church, Britain’s only surviving 19th Century Operating Theatre was rediscovered in 1956. During 2008, the Church building is undergoing restoration works, both internal and external. The Museum is still open daily, but scaffolding makes it harder to spot. Click for more information on visiting the Museum, including images to help you find it.IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The Museum will be closed from Monday 19th May until c. Wednesday 4th June for restoration. Please keep an eye on the website for confirmation of exact re-opening date. The Operating Theatre itself will not be accessible until late June, but the Museum collection and Herb Garret, including special new displays, will be available at a reduced admission charge. |
