MUSEUM COLLECTION

A large donation of objects, for both display and handling purposes, was received from the Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons. Objects included a mitral valvotomy knife designed by Lord Russell Brock, whose dedication and perserverance was largely responsible for the restoration of the operating theatre and creation of the museum.

MUSEUM WINS HERITAGE AWARD

"PROJECT ON A LIMITED BUDGET" AWARD FOR
"TALES FROM THE CRYPT"
AT THE MUSEUMS & HERITAGE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE

The Old Operating Theatre Museum is proud to announce that it is the winner of a 2007 Museums and Heritage Award for Excellence. Beating five other shortlisted museums, the "Tales From The Crypt" project came first place in the category for Projects on a Limited Budget (for further details, see the Museums & Heritage website)

"Tales from the Crypt" was an extramural project comprising the programme of activities and exhibition during the temporary relocation of the Museum's services and collection from the Garret to the Crypt of St Thomas' Church, during restoration of the roof in 2005/06. Supported by a rolling programme of public events, and collaboration with artists Richard Squires and Philip Warnell to create "Suture: Artwork without Anaesthetic", the museum's education service was able to continue throughout a period which would otherwise have seen temporary closure of the museum.

THE POWER OF BLOOD: MUSEUM EVENTS

A programme of events has been arranged for early summer 2007, including children's half-term holiday events. These include the popular "The Power Of Blood", which sold out in the Easter holidays!
